More Camo cupcakes

Camo icing

The last time I made camo cupcakes I used fondant toppers, and so since I tried out the camo icing technique in the AK 47 cake I figured it should work just as well on cupcakes. It did take some time getting all the colors to look random though.
Half of the order had the gun silhouette added to them.

This was such a fantastic turnout. The inspiration for this cake was a three tier version, and they needed less cake but wanted the general design to be similar. Also the original had much more fondant on it and my client wanted mostly buttercream. So I kept the fondant to only the accents and of course she provided the cars for the road.
I am just so pleased with how it turned out!

AK 47 on Camo

It was an interesting experiment to turn the background into camouflage. That icing job was good practice for some upcoming cupcakes which still need to be posted.

Breaking Dawn honeymoon bed

I have a regular customer who is a huge Twilight fan. She has been planning her own cake for months. She wanted it to represent a scene from the newest movie which hasn't even hit the theaters yet.
It's a good thing that I have read the books as well so that I knew exactly what she was talking about when she described the bed in Bella and Edward's room.
It did help that there were many trailers available to watch online.

I had seen a Wilton student of mine use this idea on a class cake recently and I really wanted to give the scrolls some practice. I still feel like I am trying too hard, but in time they will get easier for me to do seamlessly with little effort. For now I am happy with how this one turned out.

I did not make a Halloween cake this year and so when I tried out a new recipe I decided to hand it out for people to try as monster cupcakes.
They were orange inside, and the flavor was citrus themed, with lemon and orange.

Paul Reed Smith guitar

Carrot cake with cream cheese icing Guitar! This was made for a musician of course. She was turning 50 and there was a surprise party being thrown while they were on a camping trip.
It was a large cake that did not fit in my fridge and so I had to make it in two parts and put it together on the morning of pick up. I was nervous about the travel, but apparently the whole thing went off without a hitch.

The Twins

The man who received this cake is one lucky guy. It was actually his wife's idea to get him a set of cake boobs for his birthday.
I wonder how fun that party turned out to be.

The Big one

This is my first Fish cake! Its all done with butter cream. I added the colors on one at a time, slowly changing the color in the bowl as I worked at it.
This was made for a 60th birthday party, for a man who, you guessed it, loves to fish.

Combo Birthday gift cake

This was a last minute order from a teacher at my son's school. I usually have a driving arrangement for someone else to take him to school, but that day I did it myself. Good thing too, as I wouldn't have gotten the cake order otherwise. The party was for a bunch of little ones turning 2, boys and girls, so I went with the pink and blue to cover both genders. This cake would also work for a Gender reveal party cake.

Ms. Pac Man

This cake makes me want to go play the video game. I really was never any good at it but it is fun to play for at least a little while. I iced the cake in white buttercream and then just the top in black before I made the game background. Ms Pac Man is another FBCT only this time I used black icing around the border so it would blend in better. I was really happy with how she turned out and so was the gamer who got to have her attend his birthday!

This was a great cake to start off getting back into the swing of things.

The month of June

I managed to get quite a few cakes made for June. I was looking forward to the cakes that were ordered for July until disaster struck! I broke my left wrist! For most the left is not such a big deal, but, I am left handed!
This happened on June 28th and I had 2 orders for the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd and also my daughters 1st birthday cake to make. I thought I had to cancel both the orders. Thankfully while I was in the hospital waiting for surgery my husband managed to get a hold of a fellow decorator to do the orders last minute. I am so glad that I met her in my Wilton classes a few years ago! I would hate to disappoint my customers.
So I spent a night in the hospital, and had surgery on my left wrist. The doctor gave me a permanent plate held in with 6 screws and there is also a pin that will be removed at a later date. As of right now I have been healing for 4 weeks, and I am determined to get my dexterity back as fast as I can. Once the pin is removed I will be in physio. But for now I try to go about my daily duties wearing my splint as little as possible.
This week I started back making flowers and baking cake. I have a small cake that I did not cancel for this week and also a wedding cake for the 1st weekend of August which I want to have a head start on the flowers.
The other major disappointment for me because of my injury was that I had to cancel my plans to enter a triathlon for Aug 7th. I've spent the last 4 weeks taking it easy, and finally decided that was long enough and got back to running this week. Maybe I'll give swimming a try next week!

Just kidding, I will do any sports themed cake that you ask of me. I don't have any team preference when it come to cake.

I have to admit that Pops are not what I am good at, but if a customer wants them then I will do my best.
The best thing about the 2ocake pops orders that I had in June was that I found a great place to buy the sprinkles in larger quantities. Bulk Barn has so many to choose from! It was hard to pick.

May Cakes and Cupcakes

These Camo cupcakes are for the men out there who don't want the fancy frilly flowery cupcakes.

I like the clean lines that I accomplished doing this version of Hello Kitty. It turned out much better than my modeled one on top of a cake.
I entered this Spring cake into the cake walk competition at my son's school's Spring Fling. I won a prize for the "Springiest Cake" I was happy to contribute and I even got an order out of it because the people who got to take this home needed a cake a couple weeks later.
My niece is just wild about Caillou and her whole party centered around the sweet little boy character.
The peace sign cake was made for a 9 year old girl who was apparently born a couple of decades too late as she and her friends are nuts about anything with the symbol on it.
This is Diddy Kong from the Donkey Kong video games. I was given this picture to replicate for the boy who list this game as his 'current' favorite.
Mater and Lightning probably shouldn't spin out their tires on grass as I am sure it would make quite the mess, but this is what the little guy requested so who am I to argue.
My son requested a Star Wars themed cake, and of course I was so busy making cakes for everyone else that I was not able to put forth my best work. There were so many other ways this cake could have been made to impress, but he loved it anyways and still bragged to his friends that his mom makes the best cakes. Sweet boy!

Here's some Royal icing and Gumpaste flowers that are taught in the courses along with the basket weave. Sign up at Michaels for a Wilton course that shows you how. I teach there on Monday nights.
So again my client, J, called me last minute to get an order for a 3D Dora cake. I spoke to him on the Sunday night, worked on it all day Monday and it was picked up early Tuesday morning. I've decided that I work well under pressure, but I am not fond of it. J promised more notice on the next one.

Here's a colorful happy Elmo cake. The request was for lots of bright color.
I headed back to my Wilton roots to designs these 2 cakes. They were going to the same party, but one of the cakes was a gluten free one, so it got it's own special 'Fantasy Flower' center.
