Cupcakes! Chocolate Raspberry with Ganache

I found a recipe for Chocolate raspberry cupcakes with chocolate ganache on the Week of Menus website and I knew I had to try them out. Mmmmm chocolate ganache. I've never worked with it before, and so it was also a first for me to try it out. I love how they look once they are dry, so shiny and smooth.
I took 24 of these to a friend's housewarming party.

Baby Shower with booties

I've never made baby booties before, and so I found a template on the Cake Central site. It certainly helped me out, although I think the next time I make them I'll make a little adjustment. Maybe I'll try to make them a full bootie instead of a shoe with a strap.

Melted Mess - 70 candles

This cake was very fun to make. It is supposed to look like a big melted mess.
The entire cake, candles and all, is edible. All 70 of the candles are made from Fondant and Gumpaste. The cake is a simple fondant covered 6 inch cake, and then I used white candy melts to make the top look like a mess of melted wax and icing dripping down. All the candles were placed right away before the candy hardened.

The same client who ordered the 3D Buzz Lightyear cake gave me the challenge of creating a 3D Dirtbike cake. He asked for a Yamaha YZ450F doing a wheelie on a cake with water, grass, trees, etc.
The cake was no problem. I actually have leftover trees from another cake in the past. The Bike was the hard part and making it do a wheelie was another issue altogether.
I inserted a straw into the bottom of the bike at an angled position to make it do the wheelie and I used one of my decorating tools, an inverted flower nail placed under the cake, to hold the straw in place from below. I may or may not get my flower nail back the next time he orders a cake.
If I had started making the bike a few days earlier I wouldn't have had so much trouble getting it to stay together. It needed a lot of drying time for it to set solid enough for me to hold on to for painting.
Over all, for a first attempt, I do like how it turned out. I can't wait to find out what my next challenge will be.

Ballerina Minnie Mouse

My very first Minnie Mouse cake was for Hannah 2 years ago and this year she wanted another Minnie mouse so she chose this picture for a new version this year.
I loved her reaction when they came to pick it up. Smiling faces on little ones just make my heart go all mushy.

I was so nervous to make this 3D Buzz. I wanted to get his features just right.
The client who ordered it loved it so much that he gave me my next challenge that same day. Stay tuned later for my rendering of a dirt bike. I have my fingers crossed that it goes well.

St Patrick's Day birthday

A dear friend of mine has a St Paddy's day birthday and she lives to far away from me to enable me to give her a cake. I wanted to try out a new recipe for Key Lime cake and Lime curd filling, so I dedicated the cake to her and sent her the pictures. My family and my neighbors enjoyed the cake in Janie's honor.

Canucks Fan hockey rink

My same client who ordered the Football field, ordered this hockey rink for another son of hers who's favorite team is the Canucks.
The 3D hockey puck was so close to the size of a real one. I am loving using cake ball mix these days for 3D work. It's so easy to mold.
