Hello Kitty

Football field

Football field

I was really happy with how this one turned out. The football is a large cake ball, covered in fondant. The field is all decorated with icing, and I decided to try out the grass border to finish the field off nicely. My customer has 4 boys into different sports and so the next cake she ordered is for a hockey theme. I'm wondering now what the other 2 will get later in the year.

Here's a quick little cake for a baby shower. I really like the way that the little buttons on the stitching look when its done right with my cutter/embosser.
The ball border around the bottom is the part that takes the most time and I usually just fake it with an icing bead border but I had so much blue fondant left that I figured I should use some of it up. I do like the way that it looks when done, but my patience sure gets tested while rolling out all of them.

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters

It was the Ecto car from the movie. With the right amount of time and at the right price I could have put it together but honestly I was scared.
So instead we settled on doing the No Ghost symbol with a little 3D twist.

Now that I think about it, that could have been one really messy cake. One big pile of cake and icing all destroyed on a cake board. Not a pretty picture.

The topper for this Tinkerbell cake is a store bought candle which took a bit of looking to find. I am glad that I did though, the other toppers that I found just wouldn't have looked right.

I didn't realize it at the time, but the picture that I found to use as inspiration was apparently modeled after a Planet Cake airplane. I can't seem to find the plane they made but I am sure it was gorgeous as they do amazing work.

Lego for Lucas

I had two other cakes to make on the same weekend of his birthday and I was more focused on those cakes and didn't set aside very much time to make this one. As it turns out, these Lego blocks are not very time consuming. But I did run out of time and the guests for his little family party were already arriving before I was finished. Not all of the round circles actually got attached, but no one cared (or noticed).

I decided that I am not very fond of the drop star method of filling in the colors, and lately many of my cakes are done by smoothing out each color. I think that it makes for a cleaner look and I can get in more details where they are needed.
