The month of June

I managed to get quite a few cakes made for June. I was looking forward to the cakes that were ordered for July until disaster struck! I broke my left wrist! For most the left is not such a big deal, but, I am left handed!
This happened on June 28th and I had 2 orders for the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd and also my daughters 1st birthday cake to make. I thought I had to cancel both the orders. Thankfully while I was in the hospital waiting for surgery my husband managed to get a hold of a fellow decorator to do the orders last minute. I am so glad that I met her in my Wilton classes a few years ago! I would hate to disappoint my customers.
So I spent a night in the hospital, and had surgery on my left wrist. The doctor gave me a permanent plate held in with 6 screws and there is also a pin that will be removed at a later date. As of right now I have been healing for 4 weeks, and I am determined to get my dexterity back as fast as I can. Once the pin is removed I will be in physio. But for now I try to go about my daily duties wearing my splint as little as possible.
This week I started back making flowers and baking cake. I have a small cake that I did not cancel for this week and also a wedding cake for the 1st weekend of August which I want to have a head start on the flowers.
The other major disappointment for me because of my injury was that I had to cancel my plans to enter a triathlon for Aug 7th. I've spent the last 4 weeks taking it easy, and finally decided that was long enough and got back to running this week. Maybe I'll give swimming a try next week!

Just kidding, I will do any sports themed cake that you ask of me. I don't have any team preference when it come to cake.

Again, I have made a sports themed cake for one of my clients. She has 4 boys in total and so far it looks like she has a house full of sports stars! The first 2 cakes were the Football field and the Canucks hockey rink. I think her oldest is the last one to have a birthday this year, so we will see what that cake turns out to be.

I have to admit that Pops are not what I am good at, but if a customer wants them then I will do my best.
The best thing about the 2ocake pops orders that I had in June was that I found a great place to buy the sprinkles in larger quantities. Bulk Barn has so many to choose from! It was hard to pick.

I am certain that they still had leftover cake from the Spring Fling one, but that was not the theme for a 9 year old boy!

May Cakes and Cupcakes

These Camo cupcakes are for the men out there who don't want the fancy frilly flowery cupcakes.

I like the clean lines that I accomplished doing this version of Hello Kitty. It turned out much better than my modeled one on top of a cake.
I entered this Spring cake into the cake walk competition at my son's school's Spring Fling. I won a prize for the "Springiest Cake" I was happy to contribute and I even got an order out of it because the people who got to take this home needed a cake a couple weeks later.
My niece is just wild about Caillou and her whole party centered around the sweet little boy character.
The peace sign cake was made for a 9 year old girl who was apparently born a couple of decades too late as she and her friends are nuts about anything with the symbol on it.
This is Diddy Kong from the Donkey Kong video games. I was given this picture to replicate for the boy who list this game as his 'current' favorite.
Mater and Lightning probably shouldn't spin out their tires on grass as I am sure it would make quite the mess, but this is what the little guy requested so who am I to argue.
My son requested a Star Wars themed cake, and of course I was so busy making cakes for everyone else that I was not able to put forth my best work. There were so many other ways this cake could have been made to impress, but he loved it anyways and still bragged to his friends that his mom makes the best cakes. Sweet boy!

Here's some Royal icing and Gumpaste flowers that are taught in the courses along with the basket weave. Sign up at Michaels for a Wilton course that shows you how. I teach there on Monday nights.
So again my client, J, called me last minute to get an order for a 3D Dora cake. I spoke to him on the Sunday night, worked on it all day Monday and it was picked up early Tuesday morning. I've decided that I work well under pressure, but I am not fond of it. J promised more notice on the next one.

Here's a colorful happy Elmo cake. The request was for lots of bright color.
I headed back to my Wilton roots to designs these 2 cakes. They were going to the same party, but one of the cakes was a gluten free one, so it got it's own special 'Fantasy Flower' center.

Cakes From April

Well from the looks of my catch up on the blog posts I made quite a few cakes in April.
The most elaborate was Jessica's wedding cake. I adore the color of the roses.

I used steam to make each rose shiny.

For our Easter family dinner I made a carrot cake with cream cheese icing and used up the remainder of the Royal Icing Tiger lilies from the previous day's birthday order.

My most imaginative customer, J, had me make a skate ramp for one of his friends. J has ordered several elaborate challenging cakes from me and he promises more to come.
Simple swags and roses for a little girl's 1st birthday. Her Grandma wanted an elegant and more mature looking cake.
The Toy Story characters for my neighbors little girl. Frozen Buttercream transfers are fast becoming my friend.
And a Monster Truck Mater from the Mater's Tall Tales movie also done in Frozen buttercream transfer.
